Indiana State & District 6

August 28th  & 29th  2009

Dear Checker fans,

The 2009 Indiana State and District 6 Checker Tournament will be held on Friday & Saturday, August 28-29 in Shipshewana, LaGrange County in Northern Indiana, 18 miles east of Elkhart.

We hope you will come and join us in Amish Country, and I must warn you, some of our Amish friends here are pretty good in checkers!

Our site is the third floor of the Davis Mercantile building, an all-wooden indoor mall with 23 shops inside, the largest building in Shipshewana. This is one block east of Van Buren St. (Indiana Route 5).  There are plenty of touristy things to see and do in Shipshewana, including a huge Hudson automobile museum.

We expect to play 4 rounds on Friday, Aug. 28, starting in late morning or noon, and three on Saturday, Aug. 29.  More details will be announced later.

There are 5 motels in Shipshewana and also some in nearby Howe and LaGrange.   A recommended one is Der Ruhe Blatz ("The Resting Place"), 1195 S. Van Buren St., (State Rt. 5),  phone (260) 768-7750, rates $68 one bed, $78 two beds, plus tax.

Best regards,
Roger Blaine
